Motivation is a Trap. Build Habits Instead
Motivation is a great spark, but a terrible strategy. It’s unpredictable, emotional, and usually nowhere to be found when you need it most. If you’re still waiting to “feel like it,” you’re already behind.
Here’s what to build instead:
Design a minimum standard, not a perfect plan – A 3-minute habit done daily beats a 30-minute plan you’ll abandon in week two.
Make resistance visible – Label the excuses (“I’m tired,” “It won’t matter”) and greet them with, “Noted, doing it anyway.”
Attach identity, not outcomes – Don’t just go for results. Be the type of person who shows up regardless.
Stack your habits with emotion – Add music, scent, or light to your routine. Your brain remembers feelings, not just steps.
Set boredom as the goalpost – If it feels repetitive, good. That means it’s working without needing adrenaline.
Consistency feels boring because it’s stable. And stable is where confidence grows.
